[edit] Info:

Can't Stand Me Now is a Libertines track, recorded for their self-titled album, and also released as a single in August 2004[1]. The song is credited to Doherty, Barat and Hammerton (also known as Mark Keds or Mark Myers) and was The Libertines' biggest hit, peaking at #2 on the UK singles chart[2]. In May 2007, NME magazine placed "Can't Stand Me Now" at number 13 in its list of the 50 Greatest Indie Anthems Ever[3].

The Band had all but fallen apart when The Libertines had released this, their second-to-last single. Pete and Carl's Love/Hate relationship was layed bare on the record, in the powerful lyrics of the song.

Can't Stand Me Now also received some exposure in the US; WFNX in Boston debuted the song by playing it twice back-to-back even before its official radio airplay release.

The promotional video[4] for the song was filmed at one of the band's gigs at the Kentish Town Forum, at the end of 2003, and was directed by ex-The Jesus and Mary Chain bassist Douglas Hart.

Barat has said in an interview that he used to buy his bandmates harmonicas for Christmas, and towards the end of the song, Doherty is heard playing a harmonica. This could be coincidental, but it could be a reminder of their broken friendship.

In November 2009 it was named the #11 Track of the Decade by NME.

An ending fitting for the start
You twisted and tore our love apart
Your light fingers through the dark
Shattered the lamp into darkness, they cast us all"
"No, you've got it the wrong way round
You shut me up, and blamed it on the brown"
Cornered the boy, kicked out at the world
The world kicked back a lot fucking harder now

If you wanna try
If you wanna try
There's no worse you could do
Uh oh oh

I know you lie
I know you lie
I'm still in love with you
Uh oh oh

You can't take me anywhere, I take you anywhere
You can't take me anywhere, I can take you anywhere
I'll take you anywhere you wanna go

No, you can't stand me now, no you can't stand me now
No, you can't stand me now, no you can't stand me now
No, you can't stand me now, no you can't stand me now
No, you can't stand me now, no you can't stand me now

Have we enough to keep it together
Or do we just keep on pretending
And hope our luck is never ending, no

You tried to pull the wool, I wasn't feeling too clever
And you take all that they're lending
Until you needed mending

If you wanna try
If you wanna try
There's no worse you could do
Uh oh oh

I know you lie
All you do is make me cry
All those words that ain't true

You can't take me anywhere, I can take you anywhere
You can't take me anywhere, I can take you anywhere
I'll take you anywhere you wanna go

No, you can't stand me now, no you can't stand me now
No, you can't stand me now, no you can't stand me now
No, you can't stand me now, no you can't stand me now
No, you can't stand me now, no you can't stand me now
