I used it once from the shambles web site and my computer broke, the guy who came and fixed it told me lots of viruses are passed through it. |

All copied and pasted from a different forum..I'm too lazy to type all that out. And you can only get virus's if you download dodgy files such as "OMG porn!.exe", the files on the babyshambles website ect are perfectly safe.
1) Download a BitTorrent client. There are many around so its worth having a look. My personal favourite is This one: azureus.sourceforge.net
2) Install the program - pretty simple, its just like any other program.
3) Click a torrent file and go! Now is the time when we go to a website such as MiniNova or TorrentSpy. Simple search for a file you want, click it and hit "download torrent" once youve downloaded the torrent file you simply open it and your bittorent client should open. After about 30 seconds your download should start.
4)If you use that program that I recomended, you can right click your download and choose the max download speed "how fast you want it to download - if you have it slow, you can browse the internet at the same time without taking forvever to load). Once your download has done, it'll go to the bottom half of the screen and will "seed", when you are seeding, it means the download has done, but you are letting other people download the file from you.You can let people download the file from you for as long as you choose.
Thats about as far as this brief tutorial goes, heres a few tips:
Pick files with lots of seeders - these are people that have the whole file and are allowing people to download from them. Leechers are the people that are downloading the file but dont have the whole thing - you can still download parts of the file from leechers so a few is nice but, too many will slow things down. |

I use BitLord to get my torrents. A really good site is www.torrentspy.com
I use it to preview an album before I buy it, plus with torrents, the songs are split which is a massive bonus.

If any of you are gonna download films/music, i suggest you download and install a program called Peer Guardian.
From the site:
PeerGuardian works by blocking and logging all TCP/IP connections to and from known IP ranges used by known P2P foes, such as the RIAA, MPAA, MediaForce, MediaDefender, BaySTP, Ranger, OverPeer, NetPD, and more.
You can grab it here
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Firewall/Peer-Guardian-Pr.shtml
I've got a lot of stuff using bit torrent, and havnt had any trouble at all with viruses. If you're not sure, just check it with an anti virus program first.

Remember to check the "estimated speed", other than that, that file seems safe enough.
Please don't kick my ass if you get a virus.
I kid, you won't, I swear.

Forgot to say, uTorrent is definitely the best program out there!
The whole thing is only ~156kb, and you dont have to install it, it'll just run as it is. It uses hardly any memory or cpu power while its going either.
Generally, you'll be safer if you use private torrent sites like demonoid.com or oink.me.uk, but of course you have to get an invite and you'll get banned if you dont share!
If you want legal music, get an account with The Traders Den or The-Zomb (my personal favourite ), theres not much libertines stuff tho (well, none actually), and you have to keep a good ratio. |

Welcome to the world of bittorrent
I'd advise you to avoid the public torrent websites because you're more likely to get a virus there, and targeted by those nasty people who like to sue you. Plus private sites always have the best stuff
And I agree utorrent is the best client to use, especially for you lai
Heres my very simple guide I made for another forum:
Quote:
Thought this could help some people that don't have a clue about it. Is very simple to use, so hopefully this guide will be useful to you all, or at least some.
Firstly you need a bittorrent client. This is what you use to download the torrent. I recommend either of these 2 below:
Bitcomet (Is what I use, I found it the best out of the two because it takes up less room and has a feature where you can hide it with it stilll running, as well as a built in web browser and torrent site links)
Azuereus (Is a bigger programme so may slow down your computer while downloading)
Once you've downloaded that you need some torrent sites to find torrents you want to download. The best ones are:
www.isohunt.com
www.torrentspy.com
www.mininova.org
www.libble.com (have to sign up)
www.torrentz.com
etc...there are many more sites which are out there, I have a big ol' list I can put up if needs be.
Once you have done a search, for example U2 a list of results will appear.
The SEED number is the amount of people distritbuting the file fully, because they have either finished downloading it or uploaded it themselves.
The DOWNLOADERS are people that are currently downloading it from the seeds and other downloaders, but haven't finished downloading the file themselves
The more SEEDS there are the quicker your file will download because you are downloading from people who have all of the file(s) you want. Whereas if you have less or no seeds but lots of downloaders it may take a while to download because no one has the full file.
Its always best to go for the torrent you want that has the most seeds.
Next, Download the Torrent File to your desktop or a torrent folder - note the torrent file is always a very small file - this is not the completed download this is the file that we start the download in your bit torrent client
The torrent file includes information on trackers and such, but you don't need to know this.
Then once it has downloaded, open up your bittorrent programme, such as bitcomet or azureus and find the open/new torrent button, find your torrent and start to download.
Then just wait for your download to finish. You can improve download speeds by limiting your upload speeds to a certain speed, and you can also download a bitcomet acclerator for the bitcomet programme.
You can locate your downloaded file here
Locate your downloaded file here
"C:\Documents and Settings\Your Username Here\Application Data\ Azureus\downloads"
or
"C:\Documents and Settings\Your Username Here\Application Data\ bitcomet\downloads"
Depending on what programme you use. etc.
Now enjoy your download !
Its always best to use torrents to download larger files because it is easier and quicker to download because you're downloading off many more people. You can also find lots of ver interesting files using this method...
Please note the speed of your connection or whether you're behind a modem/firewall can vary the download speeds, but it shouldn't be a problem.
Thats all there is too it, so hopefully you find this useful and if you have any questions just ask !
If you want anything just ask, I'm bound to be able to find it

It's a very nice technic that really made it possible for everyone to download the latest things. Sure, there have been both http warez, ftp's and DC (during my time as a pirate) that have been the "big" things to get new stuff. Http was not that fun, much work but atleast you got game rips and maybe even movies in Divx.
FTP's are great if you got the right contacts, the problem is that today it's so usual with high download speed and low upload speed that you need a lot of upload that a ftp should work good when it's more then a couple of users. The same goes out to DC if you don't have for example 10mbit both ways and can get into the private hubs.
When torrents started to come (especially the "private" sites like Torrentbytes and other mentioned before) it suddenly where possible for one person to easy share for example a whole dvd-r to a bunch of people that would have taken ages the other way before. Now it's possible to keep a share ratio over 1.0 even with for example 8/1 mbit that is very popular in Sweden if you just can let the computer on to seed some. Overall I think I've used most bandwidth with torrents since it's so easy to get a lot of things even with bad connections.
And about viruses. If you know somethings about computers and don't download strange .exe files from even stranger places you will be very unlikly to get them. For me I don't think I've ever got a virus from downloading things and then I've been doing it for about 6 years daily. But if you feel a bit unsecure maybe the first thing you should download is a anti-virus program

As a swedish person maybe I should recommend The Pirate Bay which is supposed to be the worlds biggest tracker. Sure, the things doesn't go to fast there but still you usually are able to find quite much things there. Allways the last place I check before I give up hope on finding something that I don't get in my usual places and often I also find it there!
